And rather than bothering with the NTL CD you could go via the quick
way ;-)

Once you modem is installed plug an ethernet (or USB) cable between
your PC and modem (check for lights on the modem) and enter the
following into your browser ..

https://autoreg.autoregister.net/start.html

You will need a serial number (assuming a cable modem) of
ntl-ct8-cb485 and the details from your welcome letter (you will
probably get that 3 days after your modem!)

NTL Customer support will probably help you if your letter doesn't
appear on time ..

http://www.ntlhome.com/talk_to_us/fa...broad_cab.html

Or ring 0845 650 0121

There's more here .. (down the bottom)

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...er.html#ntlreg

All the best and have fun ...

Indeed. It then took me ages to get the CD installation to run through
without locking up, but it got there eventually - I suspect the manual
setup approach is the way to go.

I think so Rob,

I went to install the CD on one machine and was told the machine
wasn't up to it (RAM or OS or summat)?

Went via the manual route and it works fine ;-)

All the best ..

It told me the machine probably wasn't quite up to it (needed another
33MHz and 32MB) but didn't refuse to install. However it got really
confused trying to set up the DHCP client because there was already a
LAN installed on another NIC with fixed IP address.
