Hi,

I have NTL broadband and my current Linksys router is broken. I want
to get wireless because in the next few months I will move house. Its
likely where I move to I will get ADSL.

I would like a ADSL modem/wireless router (54mbs) but which I can plug
my NTL modem into for the time being. I have looked at the product
specs for a a Belkin and Netgear adsl modem/routers but they have no
ethernet input.

I guess I could just get a wireless router now and maybe a ADSL modem
in the future? But id just rather get a all-in-one now.

Does anyone know of a product I can go for?

Thanks

Neil

There's no product that, to my knowledge, has both an ADSL WAN port and
an Ethernet WAN port.

You can put a cheap ADSL modem or router on the Ethernet WAN port of a
router, but it can be difficult to get such a combination to work well.
For me, the only justification for doing this is if the Ethernet router
is more powerful or otherwise capable than an ADSL router (which is my
setup - my main router is a ZyXEL ZyWALL 35).

My solution was to get an ADSL account with a routed IP block, and use a
cheap ADSL router in no-NAT mode with its firewall off on the WAN port.
Both routers use one of your allocated IP addresses (so of my 8 IP
addresses, one is the network address, one the broadcast address and two
more go on the routers, though the main router is able to run NAT on its
allocated IP address, leaving the final four IP addresses for other
equipment on my LAN)

If, however, you wish to use a single IP address ADSL account, things
can be trickier. There are various techniques that can be used, none of
which are entirely problem free.

One way ahead is to buy an Ethernet WAN wireless router now, then turn
off the DHCP server in that router and plug in a wired ADSL router to
the LAN side if you get ADSL in the future. You'll just be using the
wireless side of the wireless router - but that's not a problem.

Another is to buy whatever you need now and stick it on eBay later.
