NTL Broadband - Registration problems in Nottingham

Does anyone know the real story about what's going on with new NTL
broadband installations in Nottingham?
Firtly I was told it couldn't be installed due to a 'database' problem,
then they installed but now I can't get an IP address because 'they're
in high demand'!
The most annoying thing is that (as with the installation problem) there
is no estimate available from NTL about when they hope to resolve the
issue. One support person suggested we swapped to ADSL (not practical
as we don't need/want a landline).

Unfortunately (speaking from experience) it's a normal event at this time of
year in Nottingham, where NTL sign up all the students they can & don't
bother uplifting their network capacity to cope.

Hint when you do eventually get in, do not turn your modem off under any
circumstance or else you may be back in the same old boat again...
