Hello,

I have an NTFS Formated SATA Drive that is running Windows Server 2003 and I
am transferring a Quick Books Database (200 megs) onto it from an IDE Drive
that has Windows Server 2000 on it. Whenever I try to copy the database
over to the SATA drive (which by the way is RAIDed), the database always
gets corrupted. I have copied the database by using a CD Rom, Using the
network, and by connecting the IDE drive directly to the 2003 Server.
Everyway I attempt to copy the database from the old machine to the new one
corrupts the database. Is there something I should know when attempting to
do this? Could something be wrong with the RAID?

Both machines have the same permissions on the same folders.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chuck

If you have tried a number of different ways, I would suspect a problem with
your new hard drive/controller configuration. See it there are any
diagnostics you can run on the controller and each hard drive from the
manufacturer. You might try to image your database using Ghost or such, or
Ntbackup using backup/restore to transfer it but even if it works I would
still be sure to thoroughly test your new hard drive array. My son had a lot
of trouble getting RAID to work on his home server with it initially working
and then being problems like poor performance to total crashes using IDE
RAID. People I have talked to said they will use nothing but SCSI for RAID
array in a business environment . Yes the initial investment is higher but
the performance will be better along with the reliability especially if you
go with a company like Adaptec for the controller. --- Steve
