The situation is this. I have an SBS 2003 server that I have recently
been put in charge of fixing. When I began, I noticed that Exchange did
not work at all. Everything seemed to be in place but in the system
manager there was no message store/mailboxes under First Storage Group
(Although the EDB files etc. existed). None of the Exchange Services
would start. I then looked in ADSI edit and noticed that there was no
referance to the server name under Exchange>Server which was present on
other servers that I manage.
I decided to uninstall Exchange and re-install. The strange thing is
that during uninstallation, the Messaging and Colaboration components
fail to uninstall and the Exchange services are still listed in
Services.msc but, of course will not start.
Now I am receiving the following messages in the Directory Service
Event Log every half hour or so.

The SMTP service is installed and running. I can telnet localhost 25
and send an HELO.
This is the only DC in the domain.
Any advice would be greatly appriciated.
