Since the 14th of this month, the following error messages have been showing
up every 30 minutes in the Directory Service Event log.
NTDS Inter-Site Messaging Event 1373
NTDS Inter-Site Messaging Event 1528

I’ve gone into sites and services (dssite.msc) and confirmed that the IP
transports are configured and that no SMTP transports are set. The box is
SBS 2003 premium and is set as primary DNC with another older box that was
upgraded from Server 2000 to 2003 Server networked to it. There are no
similar errors appearing on the older box.

Anyone have any ideas why this would have started appearing and how I can
correct the problem?

Thanks in advance.

www.eventid.net is your resource on this one.

Thanks but there's not really anything on these errors at that site. In
fact, there aren't a lot of resources anywhere on these particular error
messages. Googled, MS KB, and even the technet conceirage are sytmied by
this set. I'll keep looking and post back a fix when I figure it out.

There is obviously an SMTP related conflict but these messages are so vague
that it's difficult to determine from where the problem is occuring.

I am getting the messsage on a SBS 2003 box that is the DC for two other
boxes, one is a Server 2000 box and the other is a 2003 Server that was
upgraded from Server 2000. On that box, I am also having GPO problems and
getting regular 1058 & 1030 errors in its' event log.

As an FYI, a general reboot of the server corrected the problem. The McAfee
Network Associates McShield Service was experiencing a problem and refused to
be stopped even through task manager.
