ok... had an NT4 pdc running nicely. ran the 2003 install on top of it as an
upgrade. rebooted twice... on the 3rd reboot, when the AD wizard ran is when
the problem happened. neither of the network cards are being recognized.
they were fine in NT4 so probably we needed the 2003 version of the driver,
correct? we have the newest driver on disk and when we try to install it we
get an error... something like "a duplicate device or service name
exists".... my feeling is that something is buried in the registry and not
letting this nic be installed.... someone? anyone?? please???

update... the exact error is: "an error occurred during the installation of
this device. the name is already in use as either a service name or a
service display name"

Hi,

This article is for Windows XP, but you can still the solution on Windows
2003.

You Cannot Install Driver Files for Your Network Adapter and You Receive a
"Cannot Install This Hardware" Error Message
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=823771

Another thing you can do is insert some other NIC in your server -- NIC that
would be recognized by Windows 2003.
