Novelclient rights problem

I'm having trouble with the novelclient application to allow me to log
into our Novell server. Installed the application, but it will only
let me run it as root. That's bad, because then the mounted Netware
volume is only accessible by root. When I try to run in as a regular
user, I get this message

grsec: attempt to mmap [03:05:297321] libqtintf-6.5.0-qt2.3.so
executable by (Novel:13622) UID(XXX) EUID(XXX), parent
(novelclient:31419) UID(XXX) EUID(XXX) /usr/local/bin/Novel: error
while loading shared libraries:libqtintf-6.5.0-qt2.3.so: failed to map
segment from shared object: Permission Denied

Now I've checked that I have rights on the executable as well as the
library in question. Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

TIA, maddman

grsec! Take it out of your kernel until you understand what it does. Why
are you using it, anyway? The fact that it has "security" in its name
does not make you more secure. It *can* enhance some aspects of security
if properly understood and deployed, but otherwise all it will do is
break things (and your workarounds degrade your security.)

That did the trick! It seems that Mandrake 9.1, when you tell it to
install as a 'server' will put a linux-secure kernel at the top of the
list in LILO, which is what I was using. Booted using the regular
kernel (second on the list) and it works just fine!

Thanks!
