Notification icon for wireless connectivity has red X,

I have a desktop running XP Pro, SP2. I have used a wireless network in my
home for over three years, with little or no problems (after the initial
exercise of acquiring and connecting the hardware).

Just recently I had a crash of Windows XP, and had to reload from scratch.
Everything worked fine after the reload, except for my wireless network.

The icon for the wireless connectivity in the notification window has a red
X through it. This results in an error message saying I have no wireless
connectivity. I also have a laptop running XP home. That machine works fine,
because it has third-party software that manages the network.

I've checked all the hardware; reconfigured the router on-lline, ran
ncpa.cpl; checked the device manager; and reviewed all the KB info on this
particular problem. The KB info falls short because it isn't upgraded to the
SP2 configuration. The particular area that helped me in the past related to
the wireless zero configuration. However, now, that info doesn't match the
screens and hardware/software today.

All help will be appreciated.

Hi
The red x means that your Wireless does not work and you need to find out
why.
This page might help in finding issues of the Network hardware and basic
settings, http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html
If the Hardware and the Network settings are OK, you have to configure the
Wireless aspects.
