OK I finally got my new notebook today.
So I got out my Belkin wireless router and fitted it. PC and notebook are
both using the net. Excellent I think, then I decide that sharing folder
between them would be nice (both wired at the moment, notebook will become
wireless v.soon)

But can i get them to talk to each other. Tried the wizard thing but to no
avail. Both machines are on XP home. Any help or a point to a good tutorial
would be fab.

cheers Britman

Should just be a case of;
1. Set workgroup names. These will be defaulted to the same name when
XP was installed.
2. Set IP addresses, these will probably be set to obtain
automatically and obviously work as the internet works.
3. Share folders on each machine by rightclicking on the folder and
select the sharing tab.
Then you should be able to browse the network and share files.

Do you have user accounts setup on each machine for the other one?
When you say can't access do you mean it's asking you for something?
What is it if it is?

Make sure that the user you are logged in as has an account on the other
machine - same name, same password. Make sure the machines are in the
same workgroup. If you're running a software firewall on either
machine, make sure it's configured to allow all traffic from/to local
addresses. Chances are that one of these will fix it.

Well I did have it working for a short while
When I did get it to work I went to ZA control panel, clicked firewall and
then zones. I manually add the Laptops IP address as trusted. Also did the
same thing on the laptop. But now it's all got tits up after I reset the
router. My laptop can't even connect now.

OK,

when you had it working did you set WEP encryption. If yes you will have to
reset again.
