Not achieving giganit speeds

I have a Dlink DIR-635 router, and just bought a Dlink DGE-528T PCI card.
Both bits of hardware a gigabit lan ready

How come when I connect it all up, the connection still only shows 100Mbps
and not 1000Mbps

Is there anything else I need to change/check?

Wrong drivers? Are you actually getting a faster connection and it just
isn't showing up?

How old's the cabling you are using?

erm .... not sure. Put it this way, haven't bought any cables for over a
year

Are both ends set to auto-negotiate the speed

As long as it's not 7 or 8 year old.
There will probably be some markings on the side CAT5 or newer (5e or 6)
should be fine , but try another patch lead if you have one just to be on
the safe side

When you say both ends ... do you mean one being the new NIC and the other
being the router? My second PC doesnt have a gigabit card yet

It's the one that came with the DLink so Im guessing it shouldbe ok

As others have said, check the cable to ensure all 4 pairs are operating
and it isn't a cross-over cable (both ends should have the same colour
sequence). Disconnect the router from everything, then try plugging both
ends of the cable into the router - it will "go mad" trying to
recursively build a routing table, but should show 1000MB/s on both
connections if the cable is ok :-) I haven't seen a router fail in this
mode (when pupil or teacher does as suggested above) - the network just
slows down.

Not sure how you mean with this one .. do you mean take one CAT5 cable and
plug it from say port one to port 2?

If so, how you measure the bandwidth :S
