Not able to view computers on network

I have Vista and XP Pro on separate hard drives on my computer called Desktop
1. I am able to network a Sony laptop wirelessly so the Sony can view the
Public Folder on the Vista HD and also share a printer.

The Linksys Wireless-G router I have is hooked up to a DSL modem.

When I tried to share my public folder in Vista to a desktop 2 w/ XP Pro
(which uses a wireless card) I can see the name of my work group under
Network Places in Windows Explorer in the XP Pro desktop but when I try to
open that up I recieve the following error:

'//Workgroup name is not accessible. You may not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

I have not changed the sharing options on the Network and Sharing Center in
Vista since I set up the Sony laptop successfully.

On desktop 1 with XP Pro I enabled simple File and Sharing and the same
error appears when desktop 2 with XP Pro clicks on the workgroup name under
Network Places in Windows Explorer.

Neither desktop 1 or 2 have third party firewalls. I shut off all built in
firewalls to see if that was an issue but that didn't resolve anything.

Any suggestions on what I am missing so the computers could see each other
so they could share their public folders would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help Bob.

On both the Vista or XP Pro on desktop 1 I cannot see desktop 2. So when I
go to assign permissions desktop 2 is not an option.

I helped a friend last night who had three computers (2 w/ XP Home and 1 w/
XP Pro) and was able to network them without any problems. O well.....
