What is a normal "tickover" level of data flow to a router?

Can anyone suggest a normal range of tickover" data flow to and from an
idle router under ADSL?

How much more would one expect if the router was maintaining two VOIP
accounts (but with no calls are taking place)?

Meanwhile, at the uk.telecom.broadband Job Justification Hearings, John
Geddes chose the tried and tested strategy of:

Bit of a piece-of-string question, that one. There will be constant traffic
from people on the internet probing you looking for vulnerable services, but
[as another poster alluded to] good luck separating that out from traffic
resulting from connections out from your network.

Is it SIP? The Expires value will give you an idea how often the SIP agent
is re-registering, and from that you can extrapolate how much bandwidth
it'll be using.

depends on what is connected on the far side.

The router itself will possibly be passing CHAP down the link, the odd
NTP update and the VOIP will refresh every few minutes.

Probably a few hundred bytes a second tops.
