Hello,

I manage a Lan with limited and secure acces to the web.
My boss want to install a free hotspot for visitors.

my problem is :
how I block the wifi network of my Domain laptops when they are
simultaneously connected to my LAN.

I have win2003 domain with dell latitude laptops.

thank's

If they aren't using wireless on the LAN then turn off the wifi. It is
either a Function Key combination or a physical switch on the machine. It
should never be left on when not in use anyway.

If they do use WiFi then it is only going to connect to the one they have
already been connection to. The guest hotspot should never connect to the
LAN so if they did mistakenly connect to it than it should not get them
anywhere, so there is no reason for them to connect to it.

Real problem is not letting the corp users connect to the unsecure wifi access.

Log all of their mac addresses and block them via the wifi router. Note
wifi router not an AP.

No really way to stop them from accessing it. Can be stopped from accessing
it automatically by telling windows not to automatically connect to any
network and then defining the prefered wireless network either manual or
through group policy. Unsure and someone may know better than me but it may
be possible to stop users adding networks but then they would be unable to
use wireless in hotel and cafes etc which always upsets management

This could actually be a job for MAC address filtering -- Obviously
users could defeat it if they wanted, but I'm gathering that the point
isn't malicious users, as much as moronic users who might pick the wrong
network unintentionally.

One way I heard about is to manualy configure the "open" network on the
users machine using either WEP or WPA. Since the "open" network doesn't
actually use those,...it will fail to connect.

But I doubt there is a way to stop meddling users from undoing that.

I haven't teried it myself, but someone decribed that in this group once.
