I have a Netgear WG311 PCI card in a PC & use a Dell Inspiron 5150
with built-in wireless (TrueMobile 1300 WLAN mini-pci) and have
configured an adhoc (peer to peer) wireless network, which all works
fine with data encyption disabled. As soon as I try to configure WEP
(the same on both computers) I cannot get a connection. To configure
WEP I've selected Wireless Network Connections, Properties, Wireless
Networks tab, under preferred networks I select the SSID of the
network I've added to both systems. The Network authenication is
OPEN, when I select Data Encryption I enter a Network key & confirm.
Initially I did this just for one index, but then did so for 4 keys
by incrementing the key index and entering another key. On the PC
the network shows up and prompts for a key (I've entered the index 1
key) but after entering this and clicking on the Connect button
nothing happens.

I have the latest drivers for both network cards and both PC's are
running WinXP with latest patches.

Any ideas.

Hi,

Make sure you enter a key of 5 characters (in ascii mode) in each card.
If ascii mode does not work, try hexa mode (10 characters then).
This is for WEP-64. For WEP-128 use 13 characters (26 in hexa).

Regards
Cedric
