No Simple Task, It seems....

Hello,

I'm having some troubles putting the finishing touches on
my vpn settings. hopefully someone will have had this
problem before and solved it.

2 Office LANs. Different geographical locations. All
win98se latest patches. Linksys router with vpn endpoint,
firewall. befsx41 if it helps. I've a remote admin
(realvnc) running on one machine, station 4. proper port
is forwarded to sta4 from the router. All works
perfectly. have been able to remotely change settings on
the router to enable vnc to work. Static IP set up thru
some dns service. that works great too. (Thanks in main
part to the postings on these pages.)

-what I want to do, and can't get to work. With the new
win98 patches to DUN, can I use the Ipsec protocol to
connect to the vpn endpoint on the router? From my
understanding it should act as a server, allowing me to
access network neighborhood, shared files/printers, etc.
With the same network name, All I need is a connection
through the vpn between the two offices to get all this to
work. Selected all of the security options in the dialer,
configured a pre-shared key...put the same key into the
router's vpn appendage. I don't see a place to enter user
information...so I don't have a password or a username to
fill in on the dialer. I know I'm missing a crucial
step....can someone thump me on the head and say, hey
stupid, how about "XXXX"?

our two offices are setup similarly, with the latest
patches. The two networks have the same network names.
We only have a router set up on the other end though. no
vpn endpoint on the other side. hence the need for a
dialin solution.

Sorry for the novella, but I'm annoyed by the "i cant
connect, help@!@@!@! posts" and figure a little
information goes a long way.

The Great Googly Moogly blesses you in aadvance for your
thoughtful reply.

Nothing??? Hard to believe no one has a suggestion. Come
on, throw it out there...I'll try it. If it's wrong, I'm
no worse off than when I started.
