No Response VPN Client Connect Requests After RRAS Active for a Ti

I have a Windows 2003 Server, acting as a RRAS VPN Server (with a NIC
dedicated for this purpose), as well as a LAN Server (with a separate NIC for
this purpose). On System Startup, VPN Clients can connect successfully, and
remain connected for many hours, sometimes even days, without problems.

However, at some point in time, the server will begin to not respond to any
new VPN connection requests, even though there may be only one active VPN
connection, that has been connected for a long time. Then, after this
situation has developed, if the existing active VPN connection happens to
lose connection for any reason, there will be no response to its attempt to
re-connect, and no response to any other VPN connection requests.

In these cases, I can see the incoming network activity on the server's VPN
NIC monitor, but I do not see any outgoing network activity, and the VPN
Client displays "There was no answer"

Re-starting RRAS corrects the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

Can we presume it's W2k3 SP2 + all updates from update site?

Regards,

Andrew

It is Win2k3 SP2, with one missing update.

In verifying that all updates had been installed, I found that KB948496 had
not been installed. Since that is the update for the SNP Pack that was
included in SP2, it may indeed have some bearing on my issue.

I'll install the update, and we'll see if that corrects the problem. It
will no doubt take some time to confirm a fix / no-fix conclusion, since the
problem had been sporadic. Hence, for the purposes of this post, I'll assume
that the update has it fixed, and create a new post, if I find that the
problem was not fixed.

Thanks for your help.
