Got a letter from AOL (Carphone Warehouse) this morning telling me that (in
their opinion) I'd exceeded their Fair Use Policy by downloading more than
60GB per month and threatening to throttle my bandwidth even further than
they do already if I didn't reduce this total.

So, is there any *genuine* unlimited broadband service provider left in the
UK?

Not for under £60 a month.

Think Sky's un-official limit is around 250gb per month. If you exceed that
you need locking up.

;-)

I think I remember when NTL suggested they were going to limit the
service they sold / advertised as 'unlimited' (even with 'reasonable
use' etc) there was a bit of an uprising and it seemed to fizzle out.

Having said that one mate did have a letter (from NTL) suggesting he
should cut back but another (who can really cane the net some months)
has heard nothing (also NTL)?

All the best ..

Don't know where you are Kim, but can you get "Be Unlimited" they say
unlimited but they allow 500GB per month before they say anything so it's a
workable limit lets put it that way

Thanks for that. It looks very promising.

But not unlimited therefore wrongly named.

Because it is equivalent to ~7.5Mbits/S continuously, and rather hard to
exceed* on an 8Mbs link.

Beunlimited give clear info. You can even pay more to do what you like. I
am changing over to them soon. Other ISPs are just waiting to see who makes
the first move before trying to under cut deals.
Virgin made a big mistake strangling connections - lots of people are
leaving an already troubled company.
