My setup consists of 3 computers: an MPC 920i, used to setup the
system, and a Dell 8300, both hard-wired to a D-Link 514; and a
wireless-connected Toshiba laptop. I'm using Comcast cable modem
service, Windows XP, IE Explorer and Outlook Express. Everything works
fine, except I cant access my giganews newsgroups on the Dell or
Toshiba (I keep getting a message asking for my username and password
for that server even though they are on the form and haven't changed).
The MPC gets the newsgroups OK. Neither Comcast or Giganews will offer
any help! D-Link has tried but nothing worked.

Here's what I bet has happened:
At some time while you were installing the router, you rebooted the cable
modem. The modem had been provisioned a WAN address in a certain domain, now
it's using an ip address in a different domain (a random example: it was in
the 24.127.xx.xx subnet and has moved to the 67.128.xx.xx subnet).

Your Giganews account was registered to allow access from the "former" subnet.
It won't believe you are you if you try to log in from a different subnet.

Two ways to go:
- try rebooting the CM and/or router repeatedly until you get provisioned an
address from the "former" subnet space.

or

- find someone somewhere in Giganews that will update your account to allow
access from the "latter" subnet wherein your CM currently resides...

Thanx for your reply. I called D-Link again and read them your
message. (I didn't have any luck with your rebooting instructions.)
The man I talked to said he knew what you were talking about but he
had to consult a "senior technician" and ended up having me change
some router installation settings. Still no luck. I figured it had to
be a problem with the Outlook Express account settings for "news" on
the two errant computers. But everything seems OK there too. I give
up. I can always get to the same newsgroups thru Google. Thanx again.

I have a very similar configuration. We access the Comcast network with a
Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem. It connects to a D-Link DI-604 Router. There
are 4 PCs on the LAN behind the Router. I have just set up the 2 Compaq
Windows XP desktops to use the Giganews account I just set up. News seems to
work fine from both machines. Based on my experience, it should be possible
to get your configuration to work.

I assume the MPC was the machine that was originally accessing Giganews. Did
you use the Router "Clone MAC address" feature to have the router clone that
MAC address for its Internet use when you installed the Router? If you did,
all of your PCs should show the same IP address if you go to
http://whatismyip.net You may want to check that. If they do, you really
need to closely check all your Outlook Express setup info.
