Hi, I wonder if someone can help me. I have an IBM netvista which
has
been running linux happily for many years, and I custom-compile the
kernel when a new version is released. However I have been unable to
successfully get any kernel since 2.4.19 onwards to work correctly,
and I have tried every one up to 2.6.21.
The boot sequence for 2.6.21.1 for example shows no problems I can
see, and shows sshd starting correctly, however I am unable to
connect
to it. Also apache2 shows signs of being unable to resolve its own
host name, both leading me to suspect the ethernet driver (e100),
however during boot I can see that it's managed to get its IP address
via DHCP from my internet gateway, so it's not completely broken -
perhaps some changes in the set-up of the TCP/IP stack since 2.6.18?
One further piece of information: This IBM BIOS contains a timer bug,
for which I have to apply a patch before each kernel build - I don't
think this is related as the symptoms of that are nothing more than
"tick loss" leading to unreliable time keeping.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Below are the syslog entries
for the 2.6.21.1 if that might shed some light on it...
