No Network Neighbourhood

My PC is hooked in to a network - I know this because I'm
acessing the internet via the LAN connection. However,
there is no Network Neighbourhood icon on the desktop -
and as such I can't navigate the network drives.

Also, when my PC starts it tells me that the
registry/win.ini refers to 'vnetsup.vxd', 'vredir.vxd'
and 'dfs.vxd', all of which are apparently missing. Once I
get to the desktop, a dialog box appears telling me
that 'msnp32.dll' is missing and Windows Networking will
not function properly.

I've tried reinstalling the software that came with the
network card, tried Windows Update.

Can anybody help?
Matt

Hello
Got the same prob once. I had to reinstall windows.
Step one: Switch on your computer as usual and start
windows.
Step two: Put the Windows cd-rom into the drive.
Step three: close all running tasks Ctrl-Alt-Del....Only
Systray and Explorer skould be running....
Step four: Run setup.exe from cd-rom
Follow the on screen setup.
No data will be lost, normaly, so take a backup.

Anybody got any ideas which don't require me to reinstall
windows? I don't have a viable backup method until I'm
connected to the network properly.

You will need to get these files from another system and
copy them into the same directory that they were in in the
other sytem. I also got this error message on boot up.
This solved the problem.

Go to Control Panel | Network. If "Client for Microsoft Networks"
appears in the list of network components, delete it and reboot. Then
go back and add "Client for Microsoft Networks".
