I am so at a loss. Let me explain. I leave my server
one night and come back a day later to find that I can't
do any networking on it. First sign of trouble... The
Service or Driver failed to load at startup. Which
indicated a unplanned reboot while I was away. Then I
can't access the internet. I try Internet Options ->
Connections and I get this error:
An exception occurred while trying to
run "c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll,
Control_Run.DLL "C:\windows\system32\inetcpl.cpl",
Internet Options
Next, I try to open Internet Explorer again only to find
that immediately closes. (without me pressing anything)
There's more. I have two NIC cards, but I open Network
Connections and it's totally empty. Just a simple white
background box. The NICs are "working properly"
according to Device Manager. I even tryed removing and
disabling the NICs to see if hardward was the problem.
NOPE... not even. It's not a virus. I ran an updated
virus scan. I'm at a loss. Help!

Hi,

try this:

How to reset "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) " in Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=317518

Note, this will completely reset your TCP/IP Settings (e.g. erase manual IP
configuration and set NIC to DHCP,...)

I hope this helps,

Mike

I've seen similar issues with spyware. I had to use a utility called
LSP-Fix, it can found at http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm (use at your own
risk). You'll probably want to run Hijackthis to clean up the
malware/spyware that did this as well.
