NO internet on lan help please

Will internet service work through a cat 5 cable connection ( nic
cards) between two computers on a small lan ?
Can get lan working (shared folders ok) but no internet.

Should be straight foward !

Could this be due to improper config. or do I need to make the
interface with a router or access point?
