Hello,

No Internet Dilemma!

Ive been trying to help my friend out for the last couple of nights
with his new home networking setup.
All he wants is to connect to the internet via his laptop over
wireless while having his home desktop PC hooked up to the cable
modem.

So we have the basic bog standard setup (or so id think)

Internet --- MOTOROLA SB4200 SURFboard cable modem --- AzureWave
54gWireless 4-Port Cable Router
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...aplin&U=Search...

After hours of troubleshooting we finally reolised that the router
wasn't picking up an internet connection from it cable modem.

I'm all out of ideas now and thought id try my luck with this
forums...

Hope to hear from you all soon

Thanks, Dan

Did you reboot the modem? When you attach something to them with a different
mac address they need a reboot and they re issue you with a new ip. The pc
macs is different to the router so it should have worked straight after a
reboot of the modem.

Have you tried both kinds of cable (crossover and patch) between the router
and the modem? This is the most likely problem.

Have you mixed up the power adaptors and plugged the modems power into the
router and the routers power into modem? Ive done this a few times and then
wondered why nothings working

Im not sure about that specific model but most cable modems you can access
the status page by using the following url on the connected pc. If you can
conect to it then you know its properly connected....

http://root:root@192.168.100.1

A cant think of anything else that would be causing the problem except maybe
a faulty cable. Make sure that nothing is moved (including cables) and
alternate between router plugged into the modem and pc plugged into the
modem. Remember you will need a modem reboot between changing them over.

Hope that helps a little.

Gordy

Don't be daft. Even the cheapest network kit these days has auto-sensing
ports.

Its not daft, its worth checking if nothings working. Great help youd be
trying to fix anything. Lets just keep it to helping rather then criticising
shall we.
