No fax over broadband?

Probably a naive question, but anyway... I justtried to send a fax for
first time since installing BT Broadband a few months ago, and it
fails. Of course, on reflection that's hardly surprising, as it wants
to dial up the addressee. Can I no longer send faxes then?

Yes, just connect the old modem to the normal phone side of the
microfilter.

Certainly a FAQ, at any rate.

Fax needs a standard POTS line. You simply can't send Fax over
broadband. You'll have to do it using your old-fashoned modem.

a fax machine works like a phone so it should work. and u should be able to
fax while online.

if u mean Windows Fax software utility, then i think you may need an old
analogue 56K modem connected to your PC to use it.

You can still send faxes, but not through an ADSL modem. I have my old 56k
PCI modem set up for my fax client and plugged into the phone side of the
splitter and an Ethernet ADSL router plugged into the ADSL side of the
splitter. Using a dedicated phone line, this gives me always on ADSL and
always on Fax via my PC. If you have still got your old 56K modem it will
send faxes down an ADSL enabled line.

ummm, you can recive a fax over BB!!

this is how i know:

as a telecom company to set up a FAXto EMAIL service, the user dials the fax
number, and the fax is sent to that number, and is then converted to an
email and is sent to your email address now if this email address is on a BB
account then in a strange sort ta way you can recive Fax over BB ,

I know, i should shut up now!!! LOL

and i acept that i will get some stick over the thing above but there we
go!! LOL

No, you cannot. And by your explanation you confirm this. What you can do
is have a company convert a fax into an image file and email it to you as an
attachment, which is fundamentally different.

Oh, and www.efax.com will give you an 0870 fax-to-email number for free, but
if you want to send me a crisp tenner I'll register one for you!
