Connection to pin 2 between the master socket and extensions is
loose/broken.
The ADSL signal will happily find its way to the router via pin 5 and
coupling by 2 and 3 being close to each other in the cable. The
phone rings as you have the B line at the master socket passing the
ringing signal to pin 3 and pin 5 is still good.

However there is probably a break between the incoming B line and pin
2 which stops the rest of the phone functions working. The usual
culprit is a wire pulled out of a blade connector if the face plate
has been moved or carpet grips damaging a cable laid under carpet.
