Phone lin unexpectly went dead. I looked at the router and it was on.
So i took the phone to the master socket and the phone was working. I
have test all the filters thay work and the wiring looks correct. All
the extension sockets have ADSL siginal but no dial tone. The phone
however does ring when i have an incoming calls and the phone is on
the extension socket but when picked up i get a ringing sound as if i
was making that call and when i put it down the phone continues as
normal. At the master socket both ADSL and Phone work correctly with
the extensions connect and all the normal equipment on. I have tried
to find a problem by removing all the devices including the extensions
and the adding them again but on luck. When the phone is answered
nothing can be heard by the other phones on the extensions. What could
be the problem.

Connection to pin 2 between the master socket and extensions is
loose/broken.

The ADSL signal will happily find its way to the router via pin 5 and
coupling by 2 and 3 being close to each other in the cable. The
phone rings as you have the B line at the master socket passing the
ringing signal to pin 3 and pin 5 is still good.

See

However there is probably a break between the incoming B line and pin
2 which stops the rest of the phone functions working. The usual
culprit is a wire pulled out of a blade connector if the face plate
has been moved or carpet grips damaging a cable laid under carpet.

As a guess, a high resistance connection where the extension cable
connects into the master socket, or a broken wire in the extension cable
itself

High resistance stops DC, but the high frequencies of ADSL
capacitativly couple across. If the house wiring is to specification it
is probably either the Blue with White Bands, or the White with Blue
Bands connectors 2 or 5

See
http://www.wppltd.demon.co.uk/WPP/Wi...telephone.html
for some details.

Regards.

I took of the face plate but i dont think that is what is supposed to
be underneath it. When i remove the lower section i have a PCB with
the master socket jack on it. i can see no cables. When we moved to
this house 5 years ago, the previous owner was with NTL and BT came
and changed the master socket to thiers and reconnected us to BT. What
is the difference between this socket and does it function the same.
