If you're in Windows XP on the desktop, left-click My Computer and you'll
see the CD-ROM drive. Right-click that icon then select Sharing and
Security... The Sharing tab will come up and you'll see a section "Network
sharing and security" Put check marks in both the Share this folder on the
network and Allow network users to change my files boxes. You should give
it a Share name, too. Then okay your way out, and the drive will be shared.
After that, use an RJ-45 cable to connect the notebook to the base station,
set up the LAN settings in Network Connections according to your base
station's settings (Workgroup and so on).
Once you have access to the LAN, you can go into Windows Explorer, open My
Network Place, navigate to Microsoft Windows Network and then click on your
LAN name listed underneath it. Click on the desktop name within the LAN to
access the information it has shared, and you'll see the CD-ROM listed. You
can use it just as if it were attached to the notebook.
