No access to CD, not authorized, Admin.

Hi,

As far as I know, I am the administrator of my own
computer. There are no other users and no other passwords
involved in logging onto the computer.

However, I cannot access my CD ROM drive for the purpose
of installing programs. My device is working properly and
there is no problem with the driver. The hardware is
okay, as far as my testing goes.

When I insert a CD for the purpose of installation, I get
a message which basically says that I am not authorized to
access the CD ROM drive ... but there is no one else and
there is no Administrator other than myself!

Does anyone know why I would be getting this error
message? I just rebuilt my computer after being infected
with dozens of Trojan and malware programs.

Everything is all okay, with this one exception. I notice
too that VPN, Client for Microsoft Windows, Family Logon,
and Windows Logons are all options for my network even
though I am not on a network.

There are no tabs to show who is the Administrator and if
I create more identities they will only be the same level
as myself.

Can I fix the administrative rights to my computer through
the Edit Registry feature? --- Or, is something else
wrong?

You may have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC

- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.

Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.

Hi Noel,

Thank you. I will try this HOWEVER I just rebuilt my
entire computer from scratch, including a complete
reformatting of the hard drive. I reloaded all of my
original computer data from the drive which is not
allowing me to access it now.

How could the drive be hijacked if I used it for an
entire rebuild? Does that make sense?

guaranteed.
