Hello, all. Does anyone have experience getting NIST Net 2.0.12c up and
running on FC4? NIST Net compiles OK but I had to load the module
nistnet.ko to get things going. The weird thing is that NIST Net using
the nistnet.ko module seems to work even though I hadn't recompiled the
FC4 kernal to modularize the rtc. IOW, I just used insmod
/<path>/nistnet.ko prior to launching the xnistnet GUI. I then did some
packet drops to verify operation of NIST Net. Didn't see anything about
nistnet.ko in the README files or any other NIST Net docs. I didn't
expect NIST Net to work without first doing a rmmod rtc followed by a
insmod nistnet. Thanks for your comment and time. Sincerely,

Did you remember to turn it on? I've forgotten that little detail more
than once...

Turn what on?

Ever heard of quoting some text that you're replying to, so there is some
context?

Hello, and if you read my original post I stated I did run some packet
loss tests using NIST Net. Thanks for taking the time, though. What I
want to know is whether what I did to implement NIST Net was correct
especially since I did not modularize the rtc and found the right kernel
module (nistnet.ko) quite by accident after trying the various modules in
the "kernel" subdirectory of NIST Net. I should add that while I used
configure, make and make install I did NOT do a make dep and make modules
since I did not rebuild the FC4 (2.6) kernel.

The NIST Net documentation is confusing since while it talks about needing
patches for earlier Linux kernels it also mentions not having to recompile
(presumably to have the rtc modularized) the kernel but doesn't mention
what kernel versions don't require rebuilding. Sincerely,
