NIS users in local groups?

Is it possible to put NIS users in local groups?

Situation is: I get users & passwords with ypbind from
the university net.
but for my local linux machines I'd need all the users
(luckily no exception) in certain groups.
to provide these groups by the nis server is not that
useful.

I didn't understand nis/nisgroups and so on not very well.
what to do / research to reach my goal?

Yes - and that even makes sense to some extent.

So for example I want to put the nis-user Bob in
the local group audio (24).
An for Bob in /etc/groups is not a solution, because
there are to many users to put them all by hand in
the line for the audio group ..

How could it be done? Tweaking /etc/groups?

in nsswitch I use:
group: nis, compat
