NIS tips on redhat 8/9

Hello. I'm trying to set up a NIS on Redhat 8 and 9. I have a NIS server
that is responding i.e. I can do a ypcat and see the logins. But I'm
having a problem with the client. The client can see the nis server using
ypcat but I can't seem to get it to log in using nis. If anyone has a
suggestion I would sure like to hear it. I have followed the NIS how-to.

Are you mounting any NFS volumes?

Do you have:
NISDOMAIN="something"
set in your /etc/sysconfig/network
