NIS Setup Help: "Can't bind to server which serves this domain"

I have NIS server (ypserv-2.12.1.tar.gz) and NIS client
(ypbind-mt-1.17.2.tar.gz) installed on two RH9 machines. The install
went fine, but when I try to use it I get the following error from
either the server or the client:

# ypcat passwd
No such map passwd.byname. Reason: Can't bind to server which serves
this domain

I have found others that have had this error, but those suggestions
have not helped me so far. Here is some of my setup info:

<clientAndServer># domainname
poe

<clientAndServer># more yp.conf
domain poe broadcast

<server>]# ls /var/yp/poe
group.bygid netgroup.byuser rpc.byname
group.byname netid.byname rpc.bynumber
hosts.byaddr passwd.byname services.byname
hosts.byname passwd.byuid services.byservicename
mail.aliases protocols.byname ypservers
netgroup protocols.bynumber
netgroup.byhost publickey.byname

No changes have been made to /etc/ypserv.conf or /var/yp/Makefile on
either the client or the server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
