nis groups

We are running debian nfs diskless clients with nis.

Problem updating groups does not take effect until after logging out and
logging back in again.

* startup client and log in.
* on server change group that user belongs to.
* on server `cd /var/yp; make`
* on client `id; groups` does not show the updates.
* on client `id username; groups username` does show the updates.
* on client log out and log back in again and then `id; groups` show the
updates.

I need to dynamically change the groups that users belong to on the fly
while they are still logged in.

Even if you don't use nis, a user must log out and log in for changes in
group membership to take effect.
