NIS and KDM login

Greetings and Felicitations,

I'm in the process of setting up NIS authentication and if I have a
run level 3 type prompt on the clients I can login successfully,
however if I have the run level 5 login displayed (KDM) I cannot
login. /var/log/messages says :
Oct 11 12:07:46 apu kde(pam_unix)[11644]: check pass; user unknown
Oct 11 12:07:46 apu kde(pam_unix)[11644]: authentication failure;
logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=server.ltsp:1 ruser= rhost=
which is not terribly helpful. I've googled this newsgroup and the
question has been asked before, but it was not answered.

What is the secret to getting KDM to authenticate against NIS?

Well it appears as either nobody knows (or cares) about this.
Anyway in case some other poor bunny comes across this problem,
I solved it by changing the following entry in /etc/ssh/sshd_conf

from: #PAMAuthenticationViaKbdInt no

to: #PAMAuthenticationViaKbdInt yes

what has ssh to do with kdm? Stuff knows, but obviously there is some
relationaship in FC1. With the "yes" setting graphical login authenticates
against the NIS maps, with the "no" setting it doesn't.
