AOL - the unlimited ISP of choice for heavy downloaders.

Utter rubbish - didn't give me a chance to say what
I needed from an ISP and just kept telling me that the
cheapest - that I wouldn't touch with a barge pole -
were the best for me.

That's exactly the point - it told me what was "best for me"
without taking my opinion into account.

Start here, http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/
enter your telephone number and postcode check the Broadband wizard
button, then the "search now" button. You'll then be given 4 questions
about your usage, and also asked whether you would be prepared to change
your phone provider. With me it recommends Virgin.net, who I'm already
with. The whole point is to recommend the cheapest ISP that meets your
requirements. It cant factor in personal preferences.

you just know its going to be crap when the ISPs on the front are
those who depend on advertising power for their existence - Wanadoo,
Tiscali, Toucan (ie Tiscali again), BT, America OnLine, Onetel

Why was I not offerred Plusnet at any point, even when listing "all
providers". Or Zen, Metronet, F2S or Eclipse.

These sites suck big time. "Broadband Choices" my arse, "Blatant
Advertising" perhaps.

It doesn't work. It asks for a BT phone number which I do not have. My
phone number is an ntl one. If you don't provide one it won't move on to the
next screen.
