I've just ceased using broadband and have disconnected my router.
I'm only using dial-up from now on.

I've left the 3Com NIC installed, but now it doesn't have a connection
my PC seems to be pausing between other activities as if it's
searching or polling for a LAN connection.

Is there any way to stop the NIC from doing this without having to
physically remove it?

Disable the NIC in device manager.

Is your router for sale?

Sorry, but no - I'm keeping it for future ADSL use (whenever).
