NIC Card Errors with MN-500

I'm having a problem with my NIC card ever since I got my
Broadband Router (MN-500). I'm running Windows XP with a
Kingston Technology NIC model KNE110TX. The problem I'm
having is about once a minute I get an error stating
that "The computer is not connected to the Network - The
cable is unplugged" and then 5 seconds later I get
another message stating "The computer is now connected to
the Network - The cable is plugged in". This is only a
recent error.

I know this is not the error of the router because I have
a PC running Windows 2000 on the same network and it does
not get this error. The error is coming from the Local
Area Connection icon in the taskbar. (enabled by
checking the box display icon when connected on the local
area connection properties). I tried going to the
Kingston Technologies website to update the drivers, but
they just use generic NIC drivers included with the WinXP
install cds.

Has anyone ever heard of this? I would greatly
appreciate any help you can give!

Thanks,

Daniel

The computer is plugged in to port 1 on the router and
the router firmware is the latest version which is
V1.11.017.

Thanks!

Daniel, go into Network Connections, right-click your LAN icon and select
Properties. Go to the Authentication tab and see if you have a check mark
in the box next to Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for the network. It
isn't necessary.

Chris,

Thank you for the feedback, but this box is not checked.
I'll keep looking for another solution!

Any updates from the manufacturer of the NIC? If the information I checked
is correct, that's an old NIC and may have a driver update.

I'm a bearer of very little brain tonight, and perhaps someone else will hop
in here, but in Device Manager can you change any of the settings on the
NIC? You may want to try running the NIC at 10 Mbps/Half Duplex.

get a new nic card. the one you have is most likely junk. get a cheapie it
will cost about $10.00. I have had $100.00 cards and $5.00 cards and the
$5.00 cards last just as long as the most expensive ones......or longer!

Swap the network cables between the XP and the 2K, also
use a router port other than 1 -- This will help
eliminate problems with the cable or the router port

The problem could also come from a misconfiguration on
the XP. Do you have multiple net cards on it, or are
multiple configured on Devices? It could also come from
the network settings (same subnet, etc.)

You might try connecting it to port 3 instead. In my experience that
port can handle NICs that the other ports can't. Another option is get
a switch which you connect to the MN-500 and then connect your computer
to the switch.
