NFS user conflict

I have two accounts on two different computers and therefore 2 home
directories.
Luckely I have root access to one of them so I decided to set up a nfs
share between the two computers.

I created a new directory/mount point on the one (NFS client was already
installed) and set up the NFS server on the other. Mounting went OK, but
when I tried to list the contents of the share I got a "access denied".
Strangely, the mount point changed ownership from asciimonster:users to
1000:users.

This is clearly a mismatch between the ownerships of the server vs.
client. So how to solve? Chould I change the server or the client?

UIDs need to be the same for this user, usernames are only fake, UID/GID
is what really matters. Obviously, you have to change them on the box you
have root, don't play around with mapping, it isn't worth the time.
