Guys:

I am having serious NFS problem, I coun't able to mount at all. Also I
can see only portmap process is running when I do ps -eaf, but none of
the rpc/mountd/nfsd running. These are the various errors I am getting
when I execute these commands.

#rpcinfo -p
rpcinfo: Can't contact portmapper: RPC: Remote system error -
Connection times out

#mount -t nfs xx.xx.xx.xx:/ex......... /mnt/nfs
mount: RPC: Unable to receiving: errno=Connection refused
portmap: server localhost not responding, timedout
lock_up: makesock failed, error=-5

#pd -eaf |grep rpc
root xxxx 1 00:02 [rpciod]

I copied rpc.mountd, rpc.nfsd, rpc.statd into /sbin directory.
On the remote machine (xx.xx.xx.xx) everything is OK, since NFS works
with old version with that machine.

Thanks in advance.

NFS Gurus, please let me know, why I can't execute the "rpcinfo -p"
and mount command on my system, my kernel is based on 2.4.18. I am
getting the following errors. Appreciated.

#rpcinfo -p
rpcinfo: Can't contact portmapper: RPC: Remote system error -
Connection times out

#mount -t nfs xx.xx.xx.xx:/ex......... /mnt/nfs
mount: RPC: Unable to receiving: errno=Connection refused
portmap: server localhost not responding, timedout
lock_up: makesock failed, error=-5

Have you tried starting them?

Well, I started portmap daemon (I stoped that deamon first and
restarted)and nfs-server daemon again. Still same error. If I build
NFS Image and load that image, then no problem at all.

#/etc/init.d/portmap restart

#/etc/init.d/nfs-server start

Try starting them without the init scripts. I find that sometimes the init
scripts bomb out for odd reasons, and suppress errors that might be useful.

And remember to have the proper kernel modules, all the NFS
functions are now in kernel space.
