Has Microsoft relased any plans for a new server operating system? Since
the current one is Server 2003, I was wondering when the next one will be
released?

I know Vista has enhanced business capabilities, but from what I read it is
not meant to be used a server.

Server 2003

then

Server 2003 R2 (R2 = Release 2) Already out. Technically it could be
called Server 2005, but it is not a major update so they kept the old name
and just tagged on the "R2" suffix.

then

(as far as I know) Server 2007

Release Dates are not "set in stone", it is a waste of time to ask "when".
The date can, and usually is, adjusted depending on how the project is
moving along.

Unless you want to refer to it as
Windows Server 2003,...there is no Windows 2003.

Windows XP was actually Windows 2002
Vista will be the equivalent of Windows 2007
There was nothing produced for 2003 for the Desktop/Laptop market.

The beta program for Longhorn Server has been running in parallel with
the beta for Vista. Since Vista is now released, beta testing for Vista is
closed but testing of Longhorn Server will continue until it is released.
What it will be called on release is still unknown, but like Phillip I
suspect it will be Windows Server 2007.

As with XP/Windows Server 2003, the new versions share the same base
code. The server version is usually released later than the client version.
There was another beta version of what became Server 2003 after the release
of XP and I expect the same thing will happen again.
