Appreciate this may not be the correct NG but it's the nearest I can find.
(Any port in a storm).

I haven't been able to download posts for a while but I'm not getting an
indication that it is not 'live'. Has anyone else found this and does
anyone know what may be happening please?

Regards.

If you go and look at the website http://news.individual.net you'll find
some instructions for testing that you can connect to their news server.
Simply use the name of the news server you want to check.

It's the old "telnet to port 119" method, and you should at least get a
basic prompt from the server. You might need to log on to get more than
that.

Be warned: telling an ISP helpdesk that you have done this is liable to
cause confusion, which may lead to mentions of Outlook Express.

Have they closed it down completely, or was that some other ISP ?

You could try a free news service (need to register, NB I have definitely
had no junk mail): http://www.motzarella.org/?language=en&showpage=home

In the past I tried TeraNews.com (50 MB a day download limit for a once
only payment of $3.95) but they now add an advertising sig to posts.

Looks like the newserver has not filled since last Wednesday (24th) bu
post to this date still accessible. I hope they have not closed down.
Discovered this after Wanadoo dropped their news service and assum
this was the server they previoulsy used. It was fast and did contai
a few useful binary groups. Does anyone know any more details abou
the future of this news server
