Im on plain broadband with no email, etc. So I had to find a news service
that was 'free'. I ended up using Teranews as they have a 'free' service.

It worked fine for a few days but now I'm getting a message that is really
strange. I can no longer read or post to the group.

I only have a single computer on the broadband connection. If I use dial-up
I can read the group, but get the same message about posting.

Can anyone help?

Server: 'free.teranews.com', Protocol: NNTP, Server Response: '400 Too Many
Connections [customers allows 3 per host/0 per feed (0 == nolimit)] (Tornado
v1.0.6.380)', Port: 119, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 400, Error Number:
0x800CCCA0

There have been too many connections from your IP address. It works when you
dial-up, as you have a different address then. I suggest you ditch Teranews
(who obviously have traffic problems) and use The German Server
(www.individual.net) instead.

When you say too many connections, do you mean individual synchronisations.
I have rebooted my computer and broadband connection a few times as the
computer has small crashes of explorer.

Quite possibly, yes. Some news servers only allow you to check for news X
many times a day, or hour, or whatever.

Most newsclients make simultaneous connections to the newserver however
it is more likely that your last disconnection from the server wasn't
registered. E-mail Tera and ask them to release the connection for you,
explaining the problem.

This error tells you that the server is configured to limit the number of
concurrent connections per address, and it thinks you have exceeded this
limit.

Using Outlook Express, selecting "Work Offline" from the File menu, and
again to untick it, can sometimes help. This causes all current connections
to be closed.

The problem could also be due to an overloaded server or connection
problems, resulting in a difference of opinion between the server and your
machine of the number of simultaneous connections. The server will
eventually (after perhaps ten minutes) sort itself out; just wait, and try
again.

Alex

Hi,

I tried this but nothing changed. The offending message has been coming up
for a few days now and doesn't look likely to self clear.

Teranews are not the speediest to reply to support queries.

Thanks anyway
