Back in October 2006 there was the news that Carphone Warehouse wanted to
buy AOL UK for £370m gaining some 1.5 million broadband customers and the
unbundled network that AOL had around 100,000 customers already on.

Today sees the news (spotted on Forbes.com) that the European Commission has
approved the deal which will make the Carphone Warehouse the third largest
broadband provider after BT Retail and ntl:Telewest (soon to be called
Virgin Media) in the UK.

And that my cue to exit stage left.

What is the Carphone Warehouse like? I have enjoyed first class service
from AOL for years.

Carphone Warehouse is... well... the name suggests what it is an expert
in. It'll make a mess of it and there is no way it can live up to the
unique service that is AOL. It is my opinion that every UK ISP is now
heaving a sign of relief that AOL is going.
