I'm just about to buy a new laptop that has integrated wifi (802.11b),
and was wondering what was the best way to allow this to access my
ADSL connection?

I am currently using an Alcatel USB ADSL modem to connect to my
desktop PC, which has integrated 10/100

Ideally I would like to have it so that laptop can use the ADSL
without needing the desktop to be turned on.

So, what are my options?

If anybody has pointers to the best deals available at the moment,
that woud also be appreciated.

Thanks.

Basically, you just need a wireless router\modem combo and away you
go. Most, (all?), wireless routers come with at least one hardwired
network port so the PC goes in there and the laptop connects
wirelessly.
As for the best deals, have a look on http://www.ebuyer.co.uk as they
quite often have some good deals on.
