Hi I have just installed mandrake 8 on my system and so far I am VERY pleased
with it.

Could anyone please point me in the direction of a good begginers guide to
installing and compiling software?

Also does anyone know a way to run AOL as my ISP on linux?

hey lord,
tldp.org is a web site full of info and how to's securing and optimizing
linux the ultimate solution gives a concise yet good guide on what is
necessary to have installed on your system to build software and the
commands needed to build from sources. It is very brief but true.
typically most sources will have an INSTALL file or README file to guide you
untar or unzip your souces and dig for the info typically it is
../configure
make
make install
