I have just loaded Fedora 9 on my second computer and am seeking to
establish a small network so I can swap files between it and a Windows
(XP) machine.
They are connected via a router (Thomson ST585) and when I look at the
router using Firefox it identifies the following under the "Home Network"
heading...
1 "arcturus" which is the name I gave to my WinXP machine when I
was networking with the same machine running Fedora 6
2 "Unknown-00-19-db-4e-2e-d1" which is the Ethernet Hardware device
address on the fc9 machine described as "Bind to MAC address".
I can ping 3 IP addresses successfully from both machines and these
correspond to the fc9 machine (192.168.1.65), the router (192.168.1.254)
and the Windows machine (192.168.1.64)
And the XP machine is "seeing" something called "Desktop on Samba Version
3.2.0pre-9.fc9(Localhost)" although the fc9 machine doesn't "see" the XP
machine at all. Moreover, if I dblclick on the fc9 icon in Windows I get
the message "\\Localhost\Desktop is not accessible. You might have
permission..... The network name cannot be found"
I have one share in Samba Server Config, the name of my fc9 Home
directory, ditto for Samba Users, so I guess the problem lies thereabouts!
At the windows end the settings will be those I set up when the 2nd
machine was running fc6.
Thanking you in advance.
