first time I tried this

I have TWO computers,A laptop running Windows XP,and A desktop running
windows98Second Edition

Both Run through a Linksys BEFSR41 four port wired router
Router is connected to DSL through DSL Modem to Routers WAN miniport
then both computers are hooked up to router through ports1 and 2 via Cat5
cable.

I was sucessfull at getting the Internet on BOTH computers

but am Struggling to get Each computer to share files
I want to eventually backup all my Laptop stuff on the desktop
and also move some periodically used things from the Laptop to the desktop
to speed up the connection on the laptop

I tried doing it myself...............Unsucessfull
I called my ISP......................seeing that I bought the router from
radio shack instead of them...they werent allowed to help me.
I called Linksys...............got outsourced to India...........had slight
problem understanding tech guy.

can anyone walk me through this.

thanks in advance
Ed

I tried those but where I thought I hade everything correct
apparently I didn't

I got both pcs on the internet now,but they are not seeing each other yet
and thats what I want them to do.
because
1.create backups of stuff on newer pc on the older pc.
2.Move things used only periodically from new to old pc to speed up newer pc

This page is very good for Win98 networking:
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto...et-Win98p1.asp
I have had luck in the past with the Search feature on the Start menu-use
the "Search for computers on the Network" dialogue(I forget the exact wording
inWin98).
