newbie question about netgear 814 router

Hi all,
I read and research many of the groups here, but have a wireless
network question. The Netgear 814 is a "b" config. the big drawback
that I didn't notice was that the antenna is not removable. I've
started working on the pseudo-parabolic thing, but wanted to know how
much the pcmcia card plays in increasing distance? Tiger direct has a
card called the horizons 1500? It claims to "fix" al those anoying
"not getting enough distance inside" issues. Netgear makes a wag 511
that at least looks a little heavier duty.

So, should I just go to a different card or what, I just have too many
dead/slow spots in the house (just stick frame/drywall.)

Any help would be appreciated.
