Assuming you want to access the server sharing from the Internet, this is not secured and the router may block the ports. Perhaps, you want to try FTP and open port 21.

I rent a server through a server hosting company. I need to setup shared
folders on this server that can be accessed from basically anywhere. I have
setup the shared folder, but when I attempt to connect to it from my machine,
I get The Network Path Cannot Be Found.
I have no trouble connecting to this server via terminal services either via
IP address and through its computer name. I am assuming that I am missing a
big step somewhere in setting up shares that can be accessed from computers
not on the same network. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
