I'm an ex Demon user. Wouldn't go there again unless there was no-one else
who offered the same service. I must admit, I was not a Demon ADSL user.

My short (very short) list of ISPs was:

AAISP <http://www.aaisp.net>
Nildram <http://www.nildram.net>
Zen <http://www.zen.co.uk>

I went with the first and am very happy with the service. They are a bit
like Demon in the early-mid 1990's - very happy to talk to users about the
network, open about any of the rare problems that occur, and happy to offer
you additional "different" services that most people on the beaten track
aren't interested in (for example I have 3 routed blocks of IP address: one
standalone, a block of 16 and another block of 256)

If you want to ask more, you can also try the newsgroups

alt.internet.providers.uk.aaisp
uk.net.providers

Wouldn't touch Demon again with a Barge Pole.

They do NOT support their customers, are dead worried if a non Demon raises
a complaint about something a Demon customer posts and will threaten their
own customers.

Go onto any newsgroup and see just how many people are on Demon....... not a
lot.

I've been with demon for 10 years and have been pretty happy. There has
been some delayed email recently but then there has with a lot of ISPs.
Demon has become less "techie" and more mainstream recently, which has
hacked some off, but I'm happy enough with that. I've always had a good
response from customer service. It's above average in the ADSLguide.
I convert to ADSL tomorrow (my router has arrived whilst I write this) -
so I might have a different opinion next week!

Thx for the replys all, I will post in the other groups recommended by David
and see what the response is.

I must admit the amount of backbone link (Demon) they have enticed me but
after a second look I guess most of it is for business

Good luck with the new router Mark, add to the thread to let me/others know
how it goes..

Sounds a bit like Blueyonder. Except Blueyonder tend to skip the
threaten stage; probably due to staff shortages.

I successfully converted over yesterday. It took about 4 hours to get
everything up and running as I wanted. The Draytek Vigor router wasn't
quite as easy to set up as I had hoped. Some stuff I had to configure
manually as it didn't pick up the settings automatically. Also I entered
in my username incorrectly (part of it is "Ion", where I thought the I
was an i whereas it was supposed to be a small L) - dough!!

On the Norton security check, one port was open, port 1723 (point to
point tunnelling protocol??) but I closed that in one of the advanced
options, and now its fine! So now very happy!!
